cals to get benefit of extended tax holiday
Essar Oil, Nagarjuna Oil and Cals Refineries are going to benefit from the extension of seven-year income tax holiday to private companies that set up refineries by March 2012. The tax holiday was originally for refineries set up by March 2009. Cals Refineries, a New Delhi base company, would now work on completing the second phase of its refinery expansion by March 2012, instead of the earlier scheduled date of June 2012. Cals is investing Rs 5,500 crore in the first phase to set up a 5 million tonne capacity refinery at Haldia and completed by 2011. Another 5 million tonne capacity addition would be under taken at a cost of Rs 5,500 crore in the second phase. Nagarjuna Oil Corporation is setting up 6 million tonne refinery at Cuddalore at a cost of Rs 4,790 crore. Essar Oil is expanding its capacity at Vadinar refinery in Jamnagar from the current 10.5 million tonnes to 16 million tonnes by December 2010 through de-bottlenecking. According to petroleum ministry official, gas production in the first six rounds of NELP were supposed to get tax holidays, but this has not happened. The finance ministry has to clarify the matter….
